e ji,i5toricat *ocidtp of . itt[e &Inaba <br />515 East Little Canada Road <br />Little Canada, Minnesota 55117 <br />March 25, 1997 <br />Tot Mayor Fahey <br />Little Canada City Council Members <br />Subject: Market Place Shopping Center <br />Little Canada Historical Society <br />Lease Space Proposal <br />At the suggestion and request of Mayor Fahey, Jean Donovan, <br />President and five other members of the Little Canada Hist- <br />orical Society met with Mr. Grootwassink and the property <br />manager of the Market Place Shopping Center on Wednesday, <br />March 19th at 3:ooPM. <br />The purpose of the meeting was to have representatives of <br />the historical society evaluate the feasibility of leasing <br />the vacant area (adjacent to the Bingo Hall) for housing <br />the historical society. <br />After lengthy discussion, we find the greatest amenities to <br />the site are that it is handicapped accesible, would have <br />adequate parking and public visibility. <br />On the down side, there are a number of drawbacks or def- <br />iciencies that would have to be addressed further. <br />While the overall square footage would be adequate, the long <br />narrow rectangular design (which is't flexible) does pre- <br />sent some major problems. Ingress, egress safety concerns <br />for public assembly are a major concern. <br />Electrical outlets (code), telephone service, heating, cool- <br />ing, sanitation, excessive glass area and lighting modifica- <br />tions will have to be considered. <br />_r. <br />The question of security is paramount. <br />We do not have any cost figures to provide these minimum needs, <br />a firm lease space cost, length of lease and who will pay for <br />what. <br />While the Little Canada Historical Society strongly desires <br />a location to operate in, we are not financially in a position <br />to do so on our own and do not want to expend our current assets <br />for a temporary home. <br />Sincerely, <br />nonvN <br />n �D Donovan <br />resident <br />Page 17 <br />"La Societe Des Descendant Des Ancien Du Petit Canada" <br />
