e ji,i5toricat *ocidtp of . itt[e &Inaba 515 East Little Canada Road Little Canada, Minnesota 55117 March 25, 1997 Tot Mayor Fahey Little Canada City Council Members Subject: Market Place Shopping Center Little Canada Historical Society Lease Space Proposal At the suggestion and request of Mayor Fahey, Jean Donovan, President and five other members of the Little Canada Hist- orical Society met with Mr. Grootwassink and the property manager of the Market Place Shopping Center on Wednesday, March 19th at 3:ooPM. The purpose of the meeting was to have representatives of the historical society evaluate the feasibility of leasing the vacant area (adjacent to the Bingo Hall) for housing the historical society. After lengthy discussion, we find the greatest amenities to the site are that it is handicapped accesible, would have adequate parking and public visibility. On the down side, there are a number of drawbacks or def- iciencies that would have to be addressed further. While the overall square footage would be adequate, the long narrow rectangular design (which is't flexible) does pre- sent some major problems. Ingress, egress safety concerns for public assembly are a major concern. Electrical outlets (code), telephone service, heating, cool- ing, sanitation, excessive glass area and lighting modifica- tions will have to be considered. _r. The question of security is paramount. We do not have any cost figures to provide these minimum needs, a firm lease space cost, length of lease and who will pay for what. While the Little Canada Historical Society strongly desires a location to operate in, we are not financially in a position to do so on our own and do not want to expend our current assets for a temporary home.
