Hanson, City Administrator
RE: Curbing at Intersection of Keller Parkway and Arcade Street
MAYOR
Michael 1. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
In further reviewing this situation, it appears the above - referenced intersection was not
constructed as designed (see attached diagram). At this time I have not been able to
determine how that came to be.
Paul Heuer has met with Ken Haider, Public Works Director for the City of Maplewood.
Mr. Haider is agreeable to modifying the roadway to achieve the design width. However,
he is not willing to modify the node on the east side to the degree necessary to prevent
traffic from being forced into Arcade's southbound lane. Our staff feels that if the road
had been built as designed, that problem would not exist. Mr. Haider feels his City
Council would have to be brought into the discussion if this change was to be
implemented.
Paul Heuer will be present at Wednesday's meeting and will have diagrams depicting the
current condition, the alternative Maplewood would agree to, and the design which was
included in the plans and specifications. At this point in time, it appears we will need to
convince the Maplewood City Council of the necessity to modify this road back to the
original design. It is my assumption this will meet with vehement opposition by the
property owner on that corner and could result in the Maplewood City Council vetoing
this request. Cooperation between the two cities is imperative as this section is within
Maplewood's boundary and they still owe us for the work on this road.
Your direction is needed as to how you would like us to proceed.
Page 41
