•
•
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada. MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX; (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R Hanson
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: May 19, 1995
RE: Land Availability -St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners
Staff of the St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners (City of St.
Paul) has contacted us about the potential sale of land under
their ownership that is located within our City. Apparently, the
Board of Water Commissioners is making a concerted effort to
dispose of property not needed for their operations in order to
return it to the tax rolls and help to fund needed capital
improvements. Two sites are located within Little Canada. They
are asking if we would be interested in either area and what land
uses would fit here.
Attached is a map which indicates the sites. You will note they
are located between Rice Street, Burlington Northern railroad
tracks, Spruce Street, and Country Drive. The first is
identified as the Spruce Street site. It is approximately 12
acres in size and is heavily wooded. It has many natural
amenities that could make it a valuable site for someone who is
looking for a campus -type setting. The other is identified as
the Rice Street site. Obviously, its frontage along Rice Street
enhances its value. Topography could be a limiting concern.
The St. Paul Board of Water Commissioners is asking for our input
on these sites before they commence action to sell them. In
addition to any comments the Council may have, I would also
suggest we forward this information to our Parks and Recreation
Commission and Planning Commission for their suggestions. By
working with the Board of Water Commissioners, we may be able to
enhance each others' respective position.
Page 19
