Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve MoreIan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The Fire Marshal, Fire Chief, and I were requested to meet with
representatives of Dominium to discuss options for enhancements
to the fire warning /suppression system at the Provinces. The
options evaluated were as follows:
* Full sprinkling of the two Provinces buildings -
$140,000.
Modified sprinkling with the corridors to be protected
and a minimum of two heads in each unit - $120,000
($60,000 per building).
* Fire alarm /warning system upgrades - $43,000.
Our preference was full sprinkling of both buildings to enhance
life safety protection. Given that there are not enough funds to
accomplish that option, the Fire Chief feels that we would be
better off sprinkling one building with the available funds.
Based on a review of the cost, it appears that the additional
$10,000 it takes to fully sprinkle the building would be a
worthwhile expenditure versus the partial sprinkling option.
Armand Brachman from Dominium has indicated the following
concerns with the sprinkling options:
* Dominium is not in the position to contribute any more
funds to the project.
* They are very concerned about the liability associated
with one building being sprinkled versus the other.
* They would like the City to sign a clause whereby we
agree to defend and indemnify them from any claims
arising from the fact that one building is sprinkled
versus both buildings.
Page 39
