Little Canada Traffic Complaints
It was brought to my attention that two major areas of concern for traffic
problems were Lakeshore, Old Co Rd C, and Jackson And Keller Parkway. In the last
three months both these areas have gone through extensive construction. I have
been spending varying times, including some weekends, working in the Keller
Parkway area, which some citizens pointed out was also a problem. The barricades
are still in place and the amount of traffic has been minimal. I will continue to work in
this area and hope to make the public aware of the problem.
Regarding the area of Lakeshore, Old C, and Jackson, I have spent roughly six
to seven hours monitoring traffic at different locations on all three streets. I have also
spoken with residents of the area. They not only are concerned with the speed of the
vehicles and the approaches made through the corners, but they are also concerned
with public safety. More than one resident pointed out the area of Jackson and Old C,
where the walking/bike trail abuts a driveway directly at the curve of the road. The
approach apron was extremely wide at that point and people have driven vehicles both
directions on the trail. They requested a barricade or pillar to deter driving on the trail.
I spoke to about seven residents in the area about different concerns. Some felt that
things have improved and others still were not satisfied. One individual said he wants
everyone cited and that he was told we would cite for crossing the center line. I
advised him of a number of the concerns and that I would be continuing to work in the
area. I then advised him that he, too, was guilty of going too fast when I observed him
returning home. He then stayed and observed traffic and the radar for about fifteen to
twenty minutes. He was quite surprised by the speeds. Not as fast as he expected.
A very limited number of vehicles make the turns without crossing the center line, so I
feel I need to discuss the situation with the City Attorney to get his opinion. In the
numerous hours spent observing, I issued only one citation and it was for speeding.
The following information was tabulated while monitoring the area:
Page 3
Oct 12
Oct 16
Oct.17
Oct 18
10 -20
33
18
11
6
21 -30
77
54
38
22
31 -35
26
8
15
5
36 -40
1
0
1
2
41+
0
0
0
0
Page 3
