LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (612) 484.2177 / Fax: 484 -4538
JIM MORELAN, Director
JACK FITZGERALD, Asst. Director
MICHELLE DeBACE, Program Coordinator
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: June 10, 1996
RE: Picnic Shelter /Spooner Park
A meeting was held on Tuesday, June 4, 1996 to discuss the
proposed shelter that will replace the existing north shelter at
Spooner Park. Present were three members of the Canadian Days
Committee, two members of the Parks & Recreation Commission, two
Eli Road residents, Bill Sanders, and myself.
The general discussion concerned many aspects of the proposed
shelter. It was the consensus of the Shelter Committee that a
larger shelter, with bathrooms and a food serving area, would be
needed. The members had seen several shelters in the area that
had features similar to what was desired, but not any of the
shelters had all of the desired features.
The Shelter Committee is in very close agreement as to what they
would desire in this shelter and feel this may result in the
amount of work required by a building architect being decreased.
The members recommended that a building architect be hired and
proceed with the design, as the Shelter Committee would so
direct.
At their June 6 meeting, the Parks & Recreation Commission was
informed of the discussion of the Shelter Committee and concurred
with their recommendation to proceed with the hiring of an
architect. Construction would be scheduled to begin on
September 1 and would be completed this fall, so it would not
conflict with the bulk of the park shelter rentals.
The Shelter Committee is looking forward to future meetings with
the architect.
JM:kv
Page 1
