Comprehensive Plan Next Steps
Upcoming Work Includes:
1. August 13 - Planning Commission to discuss and set draft district/corridor/neighborhood
boundaries

2. August – Bolton and Menk along with City Staff will begin development of an engagement
plan for the process.

3. Fall – Staff will begin drafting and working with the Planning Commission on the Land Use
Chapter of the 2050 Comprehensive Plan.
Questions for Joint Discussion:
The following questions are intended to help guide tonight's discussion and build a shared
understanding between the City Council and Planning Commission. The feedback gathered here
will provide valuable direction for staff and the Planning Commission as we begin drafting the
Land Use chapter in the coming months.

Creating Neighborhood Districts
1. Since Little Canada does not have formally defined neighborhood boundaries, what core
landmarks, natural features, commercial hubs, or other elements should we use to
establish these new planning districts?

Preserving Character While Promoting Transition of Commercial Areas
2. How can we best balance the shared desire for high-visibility, vibrant commercial
corridors with our goal of protecting the character and quiet connectivity of the residential
neighborhoods immediately adjacent to them?

Sidewalk and Trail Prioritization
3. Staff have been putting together a more robust non-motorized transportation plan as part
of the Strategic Plan work, but we don’t currently have a plan or process for project
prioritization. What local criteria or values should we use to decide which sidewalk and trail
investments get tackled first?

Where New Flexibility with Housing Development Standards Should Be Introduced
4. As we look to add in-demand housing options and give residents more property flexibility,
how should staff and the Planning Commission begin to identify specific areas that might
be a natural fit for missing types of housing products?
