g°4/
Ce
with something more workable. Holm stated he felt this
donation was set up as "we will give you $20,000 if you put
up this building ". Sanders stated that maybe there was a
way we could work with them to come up with a workable
solution.
Ables asked if it was possible to invite representatives
from the Canadian Days Committee to our next meeting to
discuss their plan with them and discuss exactly how we feel
about this, rather than trying to communicate in writing and
not getting our point across or maybe giving the Canadian
Days committee the wrong impression. Sanders asked if there
is a sub - committee of Canadian Days that is assigned the
task of working on the Spooner Park shelter proposal.
Morelan responded they have a 3 person committee. Sanders
wondered if a couple of Parks and Recreation Commission
members would join with them and try to bring back a
proposal that could be discussed jointly. He felt maybe
that would be one way to work it out. Johnson agreed with
this. Sanders used as example the rest rooms. He thought
this should be discussed to determine if this is a critical
component of the shelter. He felt this is the biggest cost
item in this proposal. He explained that their budget is
probably realistic if you take that portion of it out, but
maybe that is what everyone thinks that this building should
have. Morelan stated that the rest rooms are not the
Canadian Days Committee's main concern, but storage is and
the other things were thrown in to try and persuade the park
commission or to meet park commission's needs.
Remerowski stated his concern is that the $55,000 is not
budgeted money for this proposal. He stated it is $55,000
budgeted for a shelter at Pioneer, and now we've changed it
over to Spooner. He charged he is not sure how this
happened, but if it happened because of the $20,000
donation, he is a bit uncomfortable with it. Doolittle
stated she thought that one of the meetings the Parks &
Recreation Commission had in regard to this we said that we
wouldn't keep this money. Johnson felt a specific use was
not given for the money. Remerowski stated that the $20,000
was specifically for partial payment on a Spooner Park
shelter. Remerowski felt the Parks & Recreation Commission
should try to set up a committee from this commission, with
representatives from the City Council and Canadian Days and
try to "hash this thing out ". He felt we should not deny
the donation, but rather try to work to find extra money
through Canadian Days and the City and still maintain our
idea for Pioneer Park. He felt that maybe it wouldn't occur
next year, but the following year or something like that.
He felt we should work toward that goal, rather than saying
"we don't want the money ". Sanders, Morelan, Ables, Johnson
and Holm agreed to be part of this committee. Sanders asked
Morelan to coordinate the members from the City Council (1)
and Canadian Days (3) to be part of this committee to
discuss shelter possibilities. Morelan agreed to coordinate
this with the City Administrator and the Canadian Days
Page 3
