515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
February 22, 1996
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Administrative Assistant
RE: 1% Gambling Enforcement Tax
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
During 1995, the City collected $23,731.66 in 1% Gambling
Enforcement Tax. This amount combined with carry -over balance of
$78,416 brings the total balance in the 1% Gambling Fund at
$102,147.66.
I am finalizing the City's 1995 Gambling Expense Report for the
State. There are only a couple of small expense numbers left to
verify, and I anticipate that 1995 Expenses will be approximately
$20,000. This would leave a balance of $82,147.66 in the 1% Fund
to be carried over to 1996.
Based on this 1% Fund balance, I would recommend that the City
repeal the 1% Gambling Enforcement tax effective February 1,
1996. The City would then spend down the balance in the 1% Fund
to cover its expenses. The Council should be aware that should
some unforeseen circumstance arise, the City always has the
ability to reenact the Enforcement Tax.
Page 79
