515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: February 23, 1996
RE: City Center Monument Sign
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R Hanson
The Community Pride Committee working in conjunction with Bill
Sanders has received quotes for the complete fabrication and
installation of a new City Hall monument sign. (see diagram
attached) The prices received were as follows:
Monette Construction
Global Specialty Contractors
Arrigoni Brothers
$11,500
$13,500
$14,400
The Committee recommended to the Council that we proceed with the
City Hall monument sign as proposed at a cost of $11,500 with the
understanding that any change in location from the proposed site
(45° angle to intersection of Little Canada Road and Noel Drive)
in front of the current flag poles should be sent back to the
Pride Committee for review. The Committee would also like a
chance to look at the color of the stone prior to fabrication to
insure coordination with other features on the property.
Money has been budgeted for this project out of our 10% gambling
funds for the past couple of years. This amount is within that
budget. It is also likely we will need to spend some dollars on
landscaping enhancements and lighting once the sign is installed
to have all improvements in this area tie together appropriately.
There is one caution you should consider when acting on this
recommendation. With the possible construction of an addition
onto City Hall, we should be sure that the sign's location will
not be impacted by future construction. We should be able to
have this determination completed in the next few weeks.
Therefore, your approval should be contingent upon that
determination.
JRH:kpv
Page 81
