515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
January 26, 1996
TO: Members of the Park & Recreation Commission
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Administrative Assistant
RE: State Use Deeds
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The City holds State Use Deeds for ponding and drainage purposes
for the three 25 -foot lots designated on the attached map. This,
and the surrounding area, is predominately wetland. The
Department of Revenue has asked for verification that the
property is being put to its designated use, as well as whether
or not the City is interested in retaining this property. If
not, the property would be put up for auction.
I have checked the ownership of the surrounding property. The
25 -foot strip abutting Park Street is under the ownership of the
State. However, the surrounding property located on either side
of unimproved Lake Street is owned by the Maleitske family. (The
balance of this property is also going tax forfeit.)
As part of the discussions of redevelopment of the Rice
Street /Little Canada Road area, this particular area has been
discussed as the possible site of redevelopment activities.
Releasing this property would square off the site which may make
its redevelopment easier. Therefore, it is the recommendation of
City staff that this property be returned to the State so it can
be auctioned and returned to the tax rolls.
Page 83
