MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />OCTOBER 10, 1996 <br />told to move the shed to the middle of his back yard. <br />Thorp felt that location of the shed would decrease his <br />property value. <br />Carson suggested the shed be moved to the southeast <br />corner of the property. <br />Thorp reported that there is a swing -set in that corner <br />of the property. <br />Schletty asked Thorp what he would have done if he had <br />applied for the building permit and the permit had been <br />denied. <br />Thorp replied that he would not have put up the shed to <br />begin with. However, since that time, he has purchased <br />additional equipment for his business. <br />Schletty pointed out that the City has indicated they <br />would incur the cost of moving the shed. Thorp also <br />has the option to tear it down. <br />Keis asked if the City was willing to reimburse Thorp <br />for the cost of the shed materials. <br />Thorp indicated that once the building permit was <br />issued for his shed, he went ahead and purchased more <br />equipment for his lawn care business. Also, when he <br />first began construction of the shed, he had two jobs. <br />Thorp reported that presently his only job is the lawn <br />care business. Thorp again stated he did not want to <br />move the shed into the middle of his back yard feeling <br />this location would decrease his property value. <br />Knudsen asked what circumstances have changed since <br />Thorp first applied for the variance. <br />Thorp reported that he had asked at City Hall if there <br />have been any complaints regarding his property, and <br />was informed there had not. However, he has since <br />found out his neighbor across the street has <br />complained. Thorp reported he would like to work with <br />his neighbors to make the situation right. <br />Thorp reported that the Council has indicated the City <br />would pay to relocate his shed or would reimburse him <br />the cost of materials if the shed was removed from the <br />property.
