Although the street is.obvi'ous y.;deteriorating, given the
very low traffic volume on1t.;T beiieve. there are several years
of useful life left. I suggest that?:`i.t;.,not be reconstructed in
1997, and instead revisit th issue during the next cycle of
improvement projects. It 'woui'dto the'financial benefit of
all involved (including they):jtoget;.;the most life out of the
existing roadway. Since mos:"the:'other.,c.ity streets in the
area were reconstructed last'ye'ar,',we' have already lost any large
economies of scale on this project'.;..`:;To .:gain the largest economy
of scale that we can, I suggest- 'wewait :until Australian Avenue
east of Lakeshore Avenue isn :need'of.'reconstruction before we
proceed with this project
Either a catch basin or:a concrete:. valley gutter should be
installed now at the edge ofj akeshore Avenue to correct the
current drainage problem. 'The:current:trough formed in the
asphalt is totally ineffective`anis:.a literal pain in the
backside to drive over This: trough;:. was a ridiculous attempt at
addressing an obvious mistaka. "madeduring...the Lakeshore Avenue
reconstruction project.
3. I oppose vacating any!;patt.of,the, right -of -way. There are
currently no undeveloped lots:on':the::street that would benefit
from a vacation. The homes that. are there were forced to build
30' from the right -of -way, creati4g4arge front yards. Unless an
addition would be added to the`front.ofca house, the property
owners would gain nothing fr.om''thevacation except a higher
estimated market value and consegueitly higher property taxes. I
do not believe the actual resaleya1\ie of the homes would
increase.
P.2'3
4. I favor the westerly location of the cul -de -sac. This would
tie in with the existing trail bet.ter:.,:.The loss of the large
cottonwood tree would be welcomed!.:, '; -a',:; < '"
Page 55
