MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
NOVEMBER 14, 1996
increased to 50 feet also, with the extension of the
glass front.
Knudsen asked if there was a look that was mandated
originally when Market Place was first remodeled.
Grootwassink replied that he was initially responsible
for changing the look.
Keis stated the idea was to maintain a consistent
look. He stated that this is a sign issue, and not a
space issue.
Grootwassink stated that the additional glass area
would provide extra display for the store.
Knudsen asked if Budget Power has agreed to the color
scheme that exists at Market Place. Grootwassink
stated that they have requested a yellow sign, and he
does not have a problem with that. Knudsen asked if
Only Deals wanted to have a blue sign, what would he
do? Grootwassink stated that each tenant feels
strongly about their sign, and they want to use their
own colors. He explained that Budget Power is a
chain, and they want to use their own colors.
Knudsen asked if the proposed sign meets requirements.
Grittman replied it does. Carson asked if the yellow
color would look "funny" in comparison to what exists.
Grootwassink stated it's more brownish, and should
look good. Knudsen asked if the consistency in the
signs at the shopping center is subject to each tenant
wanting to change it. Grootwassink stated that each
tenant must have single -lit letters, but each can have
different colors.
Knudsen asked if there was an exception being made
because of the odd configuration of the corner space
Budget Power is moving into. Grootwassink stated that
he has been trying to get Budget Power to relocate in
the shopping center, and they have turned him down
because the only available space was unappealing to
them.
Keis stated that undulation in the roof line, and
fenestration in the building front was previously
promoted for the visual appeal.
Knudsen moved to approve the architectural changes as
proposed, removing the tower, adding fenestration and
a sign, to accommodate Budget Power moving into the
Market Place Shopping Center.
Montour seconded the motion.
5
Page 21
