515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: July 5, 1996
RE: Quotes for Energy Efficient Window Treatment
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
At the last meeting, we tabled action on this item due to the
fact that I had two quotes for different types of products. The
first was for a 3M Scotch Tint Film to be applied to the windows.
This product would cost $620. The second was for a VIMCO Solar
Covers (screens) at a price of $1,108. (copies attached)
I have since been researching various issues associated with each
product. They are as follows:
* Impact of film to window life.
* Payback of each respective system relative to energy
savings.
* Ability to clean windows after the application of each
system.
Doug Jost of the Energy & Environmental Resource Center is
assisting me with this evaluation. As of July 5, 1996, he had
not received word back from all of his contacts. It should be
noted that I am becoming more skeptical of the need for either
system and am looking for a definitive recommendation from Mr.
Jost before I would recommend proceeding to the Council.
A final course of action will be ready by Wednesday's meeting.
JRH:kpv
Enclosures
Page 24
