Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
A number of topics merit discussion by the Council at our
Wednesday's workshop meeting.
Round Lake Property Acquisition
The first item to consider is the potential acquisition of
properties in the vicinity of Round Lake. I have had two
property owners express interest in selling their property and
are looking for a decision by the City as to whether or not we
want to proceed. The properties in question are 56 West Little
Canada Road and 20 West Little Canada Road (properties indicated
on the attached map). The property at 56 West Little Canada road
is owned by Mr. Kenneth Willis. It is 23,032 square feet in size
and has an estimated market value from Ramsey County of $63,400.
The property at 20 West Little Canada Road is owned by Franz
Nisswandt. It is 13,600 square feet in size and has an estimated
market value of $78,300. Given our past policy statement that
the City would acquire properties adjacent to Round Lake as they
became available, it would seem appropriate to consider this
matter. Furthermore, these two properties could mesh nicely with
our redevelopment objectives in providing appropriate storm water
pre- treatment areas before discharge into Round Lake.
The attached map also shows two shaded parcels. The shaded
parcel adjacent to 20 West Little Canada Road is currently owned
by Ramsey County and likely would be turned over to the City with
Little Canada Road after it is reconstructed. The shaded parcel
indicated at 34 East Little Canada Road is the one we recently
acquired through tax forfeiture proceedings. I also understand
one other parcel may be available for purchase in this area. In
addition to securing this property for the long term goal of open
space, we would also receive some short term benefits in making
the redesign of Little Canada Road less difficult.
Should the Council wish to pursue acquisition of these parcels,
