Naturally, we have
a great concern for their safety. Currently we have no information regarding the
supervision of the residents of the group home or of the behavior of the residents
themselves. According to the Prader -Willi Foundation, Inc. in Port Washington, N.Y.,
this syndrome can be characterized by aggressive behavior and explosive tempers.
How are the group home residents supervised?
What type of training is required for the care providers to work in the group home?
How will they try to interact with our children?
Is there really a possibility of aggressive behavior from the group home residents towards
our children?!
li:.w lr.ile will the ranidQnto liv there and if their mnvr, what kind of olienta will he
moved in?
We are also concerned with the upkeep of the group home property. As residents in the
area, we take pride in our homes. Our neighborhood is like a family. Unlike a group
home, we are all individual owners of our homes. We know that the money and cam
spent on our homes adds to their value and raises the value of the entire neighborhood.
How can a group home have this same level of commitment?
Who decides what maintenance is necessary for the group home?
Ilow can a group home possibly have the same pride of ownership that an individual
homeowner has?
As taxpayers and home owners in the City of Little Canada, we feel as though our rights
are being violated by being forced to have a group home located next door or nearby.
From the very beginning, we have been kept uninformed of the group home project which
has caused distrust towards it from the local neighbors.
We ask the council for answers to the questions contained in this statement. Additionally,
we would appreciate information on the following items;
Has the group home been set up in accordance with the law?
Is the home up to code and will it receive regular ongoing inspections?
Who do we contact regarding future concems about the group home operations?
What City guidelines currently exist for group homes?
Apart from the legal aspects in this matter, we also ask the council to please take into
consideration the serious concerns of the surrounding homeowners regarding the
establislunent of this group home.
Page 5
Ij 003
