Office of:
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
484 -2177
January 22, 1985
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
TO: CITY COUNCIL
,l ,` / t
FROM: ROGER GLAIZER—' / /vv
RE: JACOBSEN N0'AR REPAIR
MAVOR
Raymond Hanson
COUNCIL
Michael Fahey
Beverly Scalia
Dennis Forsberg
Mugs Nardinl
In July of 1983, the City purchased a Toro 72" Croundsrnaster mower
for $8,549.00 to replace the 72" commercial Jacobsen mower. We also
keep the Jacobsen mower to be used as a back up mower. The Jacobsen mower
was used regularly at the city garage cutting the large lot to the south of
the building and to cut the city lot on Lake St.,. as well as to assist
in cutting Spooner Park when needed. Last fall the engine on the Jacobsen
mower started to knock and used 2 qts. of oil per hour, so we parked it
until we could have the engine checked out. Last week I received prices
on rebuilding the engine two different ways and also a whole new engine.
Garceaus's Hardware: Rebuilt $1093.25 parts & labor
11
New short block &
rebuilt heads $1401.15 parts & labor
R. L. Goulds: New engine $ 1425.11
Koller engine made only
for Jacobsen, our public
works dept. would install
the engine.
I would not be confident with a rebuilt engine and the difference in cost
between a new short block and a new engine is small.
By installing a new engine, I feel this mower could be used on a regular
basis, so that if the Parks Department were to purchase more park
property or ball fields, we would not have to buy an additional mower
for cutting grass. We do need a back up mower to be used when the Toro
breaks down or the weather prevents us from keeping up with our mowing
schedule.
I5
