Minnesota Statutes, Section 353.01,
Subdivision 2b (g), however, excludes the following:
"Part -time employees who receive monthly compensation not
exceeding $325, and part -time employees and elected officials
whose annual compensation is stipulated in advance to be not
more than $3,900 per year, . . .
Elected officials whose earnings are not more than $325 per month, therefore,
cannot become members of PERA, nor can elected officials who now earn over
$325 per month and become PERA members buy back service when salary did
not exceed that amount.
Only active PERA members have the right to buy back prior elected service.
Further, if the person is now in a nonelected position or if the elected
position has changed, the PERA Board will make the determination as to
whether or not prior elected service can be bought back.
We trust we have fully answered your questions; however, if we can be of
further assistance, please contact our office.
Sincerely,
PUBQLIC EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION
Dorothy I. arson
JAN 14 1986
CITY OF
LITTLE CA.NNADA,
