Metropolitan Council
300 Metro Square Building
Seventh Street and Robert Street
Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101
Telephone (612) 291-6453
Office of the Chairman
September 1, 1978
Dear Municipal Official:
Bonus Community Development Block Grant funds have again been
made available in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area by the
Department of Housing and Urban Development.
These funds have been awarded to the Metropolitan Area because
the Areawide Housing Opportunity Plan (Subsidized Housing Allo-
cation Plan) prepared and adopted by the Metropolitan Council
has been selected as one of the outstanding allocation plans in
the nation.
In addition to the bonus Community Development funds, supplemental
Section 8 Rent Assistance Funds have also been awarded to the
Metropolitan Area.
A total of $2.5 million in bonus Community Development funds will
be available in this Area, ten times the amount received in 1976-
1977. The funds must be used by local or county governments for
activities that would further implement the Areawide Housing Op-
portunity Plan. A copy of the review criteria is attached.
Local and county units of government are eligible to apply for the
bonus funds. All applications for bonus funds must be ranked
by the Metropolitan Council and submitted to the Department of
Housing and Urban Development by December 29, 1978. In order to
meet this deadline, the Council must receive from all applicants
a notification of intent to apply no later than October 6, 1978.
The notification should include a brief summary of the proposed
activities and their relationship to the review criteria, and
the amount of funds requested.
Upon review of all notifications of intent, applicants most closely
meeting the review criteria will be selected to submit final
applications for funds. Final applications must be received by
5:00 o.m. Wednesday, November 22, 1978.
06'2,
