300 Metro Square Building, 7th Street and Robert Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101 Area 612, 291 -6359
May 24, 1978
Mayor Donald Valento
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Subject: Minnesota Housing Finance Agency
Home Improvement Grant Program
Phase III
Dear Mayor Valento:
The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA) has just announced
that additional funds for a Phase III of the MHFA Home Improvement
Grant Program will be available on July 1, 1978.
As you may recall, this Program, with funds appropriated by the
Minnesota Legislature, allows low- income homeowners to receive
up to $5,000 for correcting defects or making repairs and improve-
ments to their homes. (Improvements to make the home accessible
to handicapped occupants can increase the amount of the grant to
$7,500.)
Funds are being made available to co unities in the Metropolitan
Area by MHFA according to a distribution plan which takes into
account the number of low -value homes and eligible homeowners
within the community. According to this distribution formula,
the City of Little Canada homeowners could receive up to $3,630
in grant funds. Before these funds can be used in the City of
Little Canada, the City Council must authorize the Program and
designate an agency to apply for funds and administer the Program.
The Metropolitan Council Housing and Redevelopment Authority
(Metro HRA) has been the administering agency and has provided
assistance to over 50 metropolitan communities to deliver these
rehab grants in the past. We are available to provide the same
kind of assistance for Phase III.
27
An Agency Created to Coordinate the 'Nanning and Development of the Twin Clues Metropolitan Area Comprising:
