Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of <br />Maplewood, Minnesota, was duly called and held in the Council Chambers in said City on the <br />7th day of August, 1975, at 7 :30 P.M. <br />The following members were present: <br />Robert T. Bruton, Mayor <br />Norman G. Anderson, Councilman <br />John C. Greavu, Councilman <br />Burton A. Murdock, Councilman <br />The following members were absent: <br />Donald J. Wiegert, Councilman <br />Councilman Anderson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />75 - 8 - 149 <br />SEP 2- 1975 <br />CITY OF <br />LITTLE CANADA <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Maplewood k desirous of having people <br />maintain, decorate and keep their residential properties in good repair and in an <br />attractive condition; and <br />WHEREAS, building permits for such things as remodeling, driveways and <br />various other improvements result in increased assessed valuations thereby increasing <br />the taxes on the subject property; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of building permits is to provide for and protect the <br />health, safety and welfare of the homeowner in particular and the community in <br />aeneral; and <br />WHEREAS, the effect of these increased taxes tend to discourage residents <br />from making such improvements. <br />BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the City of Maplewood as <br />follows; to wit: <br />1. That State Laws be amended so as to allow for decorating, remodeling <br />and exterior improvements to made to a property without increasing the <br />assessed vaulation for taxes because of said improvement. <br />2. That the Council of the City of Maplewood would not ask for such a <br />restriction wherein the actual floor space of a residential structure or out <br />building is increased. <br />3. That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ramsey County Legislative <br />Delegation and to the League of Minnesota Municipalities. <br />Seconded by Councilman Greavu. <br />17 <br />.
