Little Canada Planning Board
Page 2
November 3, 1976
Building {See attached preliminary sketch prepared by Lewis C.
Erickson RA}
The building will be 55 X 122 feet with a 9 X 38 foot office
area on the street side for a total of nearly 7,200 square
feet. The construction will meet Uniform Building Code
standards. The office area will have decorative facing of
brick, stucco and wood suitable for a pleasant appearance.
The remainder of the outside will be painted an attractive
color consistent with the office facing.
The equipment installed within the building consists of a
paint spray booth, a gas drying enclosure and associated peri-
pheral equipment. The equipment used meets or exceeds all
applicable BOCA, OSHA and NFPA requirements for use and
installation• The paint storage room is designed for the
applicable codes as to construction and storage of class ^A^
paints. The equipment and installation meet with NFPA and
AGA requirements and the American Insurance Association Code
Class 66 regulation for paints and solvents•
Business
MAACO is a national franchise which opened over 100 new centers
in 1976 alone bringing the chain total to over 200 locations
in the United States and Canada. Projections for 1977 will
bring the chain to over 300 centers.
There are currently three centers in the Twin Cities {Burnsville,
St. Louis Park and Fridley }. NAACO's current plan is to limit
the Twin Cities to five centers. The other two will open
in 1977 - -this one in Little Canada and another one probably
in West St. Paul.
The equipment, staffing, building layout and procedures are
geared to high volume, quality automobile painting. When
the shop matures in two -to -three years, it will be painting
eight -to -ten cars per day, Monday through Friday. Some
bodywork is necessary to obtain a quality paint job, but to
maintain that level of business I cannot afford to apply
building or people resources to major bodywork. We are defi-
nitely not an auto wreck or salvage operation. Most car.;
drive in and out in 24 hours.
TIM;
