MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Reis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766- 4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 ADMINISTRATOR
www.ci.Iittle- canada.mn.us Joel R. Hanson
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Blesener & Members of City Council
From: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
Date: April 17, 2013
Re: Crack Sealing
Quotes have been obtained for crack sealing work throughout the City. This year we
have about 31,000 linear feet of road to crack seal along with five parking lots, which
should equate to roughly 10,000 — 14,000 pounds of material. The City did not do any
crack filling last year as due to a lack of significant cracking likely because of the mild
winter.
Quotes were received from Bargen Inc., Gopher State Seal Coating, and Northwest
Asphalt Maintenance. They submitted the following bids:
Bargen Inc. $2.45/lb.
Gopher State Seal Coating $1.99/1b.
Northwest Asphalt $1.25/1b.
Northwest Asphalt did the crack sealing in the City in 2011 for $1.15 /1b. They have been
the low quote several other years, have always done acceptable work, and are familiar
with the City. A list of the streets and parking lots to be sealed has been included.
Staff recommends awarding the 2013 Crack Filling project to Northwest Asphalt
Maintenance at $1.25 per pound for a total cost range of $12,500 - $17,500.
