INSPECTOR, BUILDING <br />GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Under supervision, to do inspection and enforcement work of ordinary difficulty <br />and complexity to determine that buildings meat standards established in the <br />City Building Code; and to do related work as required. <br />TYPTCAL DUTIES <br />1. Inspects buildings under construction, alteration or repair for <br />conformance with the plans approved for building permits; inspects <br />existing buildings for overloading, proper exits, nature of occupancy <br />and fire hazards; inspects buildings to determine necessary repairs of <br />damages caused by fire and other causes; makes field inspections in <br />responses to complaints and reports of violations of the building or <br />zoning ordinance; prepares and serves violation and follow -up notices; <br />inspects to determine compliance with violation notices; keeps records <br />of inspections and activities; and makes reports and sketches. <br />2. Answers questions and provides information to architects, contractors <br />and others relative to code requirements; confers with individuals <br />involved in ordinance violations to obtain compliance; receives telephone <br />complaints regarding alleged violations. <br />MINIMU1M QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED <br />1, Six years experience in skilled work closely related to general building <br />construction which has provided a knowledge of general construction <br />methodssuch as a skilled tradesman, contractor, constructions <br />superintendent, inspector, or estimator. <br />2. Considerable knowledge of building construction practices, methods, <br />materials and equipment; considerable knowledge of the City building <br />and zoning laws; working knowledge of the principles of building design; <br />and working knowledge of legal procedures related to the enforcement of <br />building and zoning ordinances in the City. <br />3. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and prints and to <br />determine conformity to building regulations; ability to make reports <br />of inspections and investigations; ability to meet the public tactfully <br />and to enforce rules with firmness, good judgment and impartiality; <br />and skill in detecting poor workmanship in materials, fire hazards, <br />structural hazards, and other deficiencies in structures. <br />0 � &, <br />
