LITTLE CANADA PARK COMMISSION MINUTES <br />The November 29, 1979 meeting of the Little Canada Park <br />Commission was called to order at 7:31 p.m. by Carl Spooner, <br />Chairman, at City Center. <br />Members in attendance included Jean Donovan, Dick Boss, <br />Jr., Joe Donovan, Bill Sanders, Bev Scalze, Jim Morelan, and <br />Edith Schultz. <br />Mr. Spooner introduced Lois Runyon, newly appointed to <br />this Commission. A letter of resignation from Jean Donovan <br />was read by Mr. Spooner who expressed regret and appreciation <br />to Mrs. Donovan for her years of service to the Park Commission. <br />A vacancy on the Commission resulted from the resignation. <br />Mrs. Scalze will notify the City Clerk to again advertise for the <br />position. Mr. Boss's term will also terminate in January, 1980. <br />His decision on whether to continue to serve was deferred to the <br />January meeting. <br />Discussion followed regarding the Park dedication monies, <br />set aside for land acquisition. Strong feelings for the purchase <br />of the present Spooner Park from the School District were expressed. <br />The accelerating land valuations and the changes among persons <br />serving on the School Board not familiar with the dedication and <br />maintenance of the Park were a few of the concerns expressed. <br />Additional land for development of a park acquisition site <br />both at the far eastern area of the city and the northwest area <br />were discussed. At the suggestion of Messrs. Boss and Donovan <br />an invitation to the Land Management Director of the Water Works <br />Commission will be extended, hopefully to attend the January meeting. <br />Specific reference to the property immediately east of Rice Street <br />that could adjoin or tie into the Husnick and Lee projects. Develop- <br />ment of a wild life, hiking and/or nature center in that area has <br />been proposed. The low lying Scully property at the northeast <br />end of the city was also considered. Long range planning for its <br />proposed acquisition was deferred to another date. <br />Recommendation to cancel the December meeting was unanimously <br />accepted. - <br />Joe Donovan reported that the cost of completing the concrete <br />to the present band stand amounted to $585 00. The wood cap for <br />the top of the structure will be completed in 1980. <br />Following discussion it was the unanimous recommendation of <br />this Commission that the Park Commission monies, dedicated to <br />back <br />
