Chlebeck
Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
In reply please refer to: 319
C.S. 6212 (TR 36 at Edgerton St.)
Request for Guardrail on Viking Drive
Dear Mr. Chlebeck:
Sorry for the delay in this response to your letter of December 5, 1979
requesting the Department of Transportation to install guardrail on
Viking Drive west of Edgerton Street (Resolution No. 79- 11-531). Our
District Traffic Engineering Section has reviewed the request and has
determined that the situation does not meet the Department's criteria
for guardrail installation. The following points were considered in
the reviewal:
. Viking Drive is speed zoned at 30 mph. Normally, guardrail
is not considered on roadways with speed limits of 30 mph
or less.
. The curvy on Viking Drive limit the operating speeds to less
than 30 mph.
. The accident records, as reported by the Department of Public
Safety, do not list any accidents occurring at this location.
. Guardrail should only be installed where the hazards are
greater than the hazard of hitting the guardrail.
While our accident records don't show any accidents as occurring at this
location, we acknowledge that some accidents may be happening. Not all
accidents get reported to the Department of Public Safety, especially
accidents which do not have major damage or personal injury. Run-off -
the-road accidents are one type of accident not always reported.
An Equal Opportunity Employer
0
JUN 4 1980
CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA
