August 4, 1987
Joseph Chlebeck
City Clerk
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Mr. Chlebeck:
On behalf of Oakmont Condominium Association, I am writing to our
city government regarding the Soo Line trains that pass through
Little Canada.
Our building, 135 E. Viking Drive, is located close to the north -
south railroad track between Viking Drive and County Road B2. When
trains go by, they blow their whistle, which is loud and disturbing
for our residents. We understand that trains are required to sound
their whistle before road crossings, unless directed otherwise by
the local municipality. Other cities have ordinances to remedy this
type of situation. A copy of the Minneapolis ordinance is enclosed
for your information. These trains are slow moving and the nearest
road, County Road B2, has a crossing gate. There are probably
many other Little Canada residents near the rail line who would
appreciate not hearing these loud whistles. Therefore we respect-
fully request that the city of Little Canada consider enacting an
ordinance which would prohibit trains from sounding their whistles
in Little Canada, or at least along that part of the line from County
Road B2 to Highway 36. We believe this would improve the quality of
life in our neighborhood without compromising safety.
Please let us know if we can provide additional information.
Sincerely,
Larry Struck
President
Oakmont Condominium Association
135 E.
