PETER SALLEAU
Re: Viking Drive Discharge
On behalf of our client, Williams Pipe Line Company, we
wish to obtain permission to discharge treated ground water
to the sanitary sewer in Little Canada, Minnesota. The
site, located at 435 Viking Drive (Figures 1 and 2), is the
location of a pipeline leak which was discovered in April,
1982 and which has been monitored by our firm since July,
1983. Elevated levels of contamination in some of the
monitor wells as well as downgradient plume movement have
necessitated the installation of a recovery /treatment
system. The system will consist of two recovery wells,
RW -1 (formerly MW -5) and another well, RW -2, to be drilled.
Ground water will be pumped to an air stripper and then
through a separator /detention- tank. A schematic diagram of
the recovery /treatment system is shown on Figure 3. Only
water that has been treated by the air stripper and passed
through the separator /detention tank would be discharged to
the sewer. Water quality data for RW -1 (MW -5) is included
in Table 1 and Figure 4. The estimated discharge of treated
ground water to the sewer would be 5 gpm (7200 gal /day).
This recovery /treatment system has been reviewed and
approved by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and
Metropolitan Waste Control Commission (see enclosed
letters). The recovery operation is scheduled to begin
early this fall pending approval of the discharge to the
sanitary sewer. Well installation for RW -2 is already
underway at the site. We anticipate completion of the well
by the end of September. Following well installation will
be the construction of the discharge line which connects the
waste water - treatment facility to the sewer near the foot of
the driveway at 427 Viking Drive. All water discharged will
be metered for billing purposes.
WILTON, CONNECTICUT
203.762 -1207
PAGE -1-
ALBUOUEROUE. NEW MEXICO TAMPA.
