3096 N. Rice Street
City of Little Canada
515 E. Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Fuel Oil
Heating & Air Conditioning
Auto Supply and
Full Machine Shop
Little Canada, MN 55113
(612) 484 -3325
October 5, 1987
Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
I am writing in regards to the potentially dangerous situation on the pro-
perty adjoining my business, Kath Brothers Fuel Oil Company. Since September
1986, when the construction beaan on Rice Street between South Owasso Blvd. and
Jerrold St., we at Kath Brothers have been the victims of countless acts of
vandalism. Our fuel trucks have been broken into, valves have been broken off,
windows and doors broken, alarms set off, pumps broken, outer buildings have been
broken into, etc. My company has swallowed these problems and absorbed their cost
by telling ourselves that the construction was a temporary annoyance that was
bringing about a much need improvement.
Then the Video Update building, which is practically on top of us,burned a
few months ago. After several calls on our part, the building was finally boarded up.
However, the vandalism problem has intensified. The construction has cut off most
of our outside security lights. More windows have been broken, a 2 -way radio
and a vehicle stereo have been stolen, a windshield has been broken also. The
boarded up doors of the gutted video building have been torn off several times
so burned debris has been strewn over our lot. Through the summer, I have caught
children trying to enter the burned building and have had to reboard the doorways
myself to prevent someone from being hurt despite the fact that this is not my
property.
I feel that we have been more than patient about waiting for this building
to be cleared away. It is an eyesore, a hazard and an invitation to vandals.
We urge your prompt attention in getting this public nuisance cleaned up. Please
contact me if there is any question or if I can help expedite action on this
problem.
cc;Donald L.
