City Council
City of Little Canada
515 E. Little Canada Rd
Little Canada, Mn 55117
Dear Council Members;
500 West Highway 96
St. Paul, Minnesota 55112
484 -3301
December 4, 1987
RE: DNR FLOOD GRANTS
We have met with Roger Glanger and Joe Chlebeck to discuss possible
uses for a State Grant being offered under the "Flood Hazard Mitigation
Grant Assistance Program" as administered under the Department of
Natural Resources.
The program awards grants up to $75,000.00 and may not exceed one
half of the total cost of a project. In other words, these are
matching grants. Grants of more than $75,000.00 must be submitted
for consideration by the govenor and legislative. The program also
lists deadlines which are as follows:
1. Application Submittal
2. Notification of Status
3. First Funding
4. Second Funding
December 31, 1987
Feburary 15, 1988
March 31, 1988
September 15, 1988
There is no indication as to the amount of money available but the
"letter implies that not all applications will be successful. The
"status" determination implies that some sort of priority system
will be established which will place some projects ahead of others.
The projects discussed are as follows:
1. Eng house County Road B2
This is one of the few if not the only house in the flood plain
in the City. Alternatives discussed were:
A. Construction of dike's - to protect the house
from flooding.
B. Physically raising the house so as to be above
the high water level.
C. Removing the house completely. Obviously, no estimate
of cost can be made in the short time available, but
this is something that could be considered for the
long term in a future grant application,
Page 3
