He also estimated that Vadnais Heights responds to about 1,000 calls <br />per year with 80% of them being medical - related. <br />Smiley indicated that the fire departments that respond to medical calls <br />typically begin with emergency medical responder service and move <br />forward with higher level services from there. <br />Smiley reviewed the City Goal Action Plan for "Develop Long -Term <br />Strategic Plan for Fire Fighting Services ". He pointed out that some of <br />the specific issues included in this plan will have big budget impacts. <br />Smiley also felt that the City and Fire Department Joint Committee <br />working on this issue have had good open communication. It was noted <br />that the next Committee meeting is Tuesday, May 14'1', at 7:30 p.m. <br />Smiley reported that the County is moving forward with an upgraded <br />CAD system. The Administrator noted the County's GIS improvements. <br />Smiley acknowledged the benefits of the County's GIS system and its <br />working relationship with the CAD system. <br />Smiley also noted the computer software that the Fire Department utilizes <br />to log in fire call information, noting that this system would be beneficial <br />to the City's Fire Marshal in documenting information that the Fire <br />Department would then have access to. <br />The City Administrator noted that on this evening's Council agenda is an <br />action item to approve cabling installation at the Fire Station. There was <br />discussion of the benefits of adding this fiber for internet and telephony. <br />It was also noted that fiber will be extended from City Hall to the <br />Roseville Area Middle School extending the Metro Inet System. The Cost <br />of including the Fire Station in the project was estimated at an additional <br />$14,000 a few years ago. Morelan noted that one of the benefits would be <br />the ability to use the Fire Station as a secondary EOC. He also pointed out <br />the cost savings in eliminating the necessity of utilizing Comcast for <br />internet service. <br />Morelan reported that a security system with electronic locks and a card <br />code system which records information on who enters the station has been <br />installed. He also reported that surveillance cameras both inside and <br />outside the station are being installed this week. These improvements <br />were paid for by the Fire Department. <br />4 <br />
