James C. Strouth
2548 -Stark Street
Little Canada, MN. 55117
483-8668
March 17, 1981
City Council
Little Canada,MN. 55117
Council Members,
This letter is being written to inform the City Council of an incident that
occured on March 13th, so they can take the appropriate measures to prevent
future incidents of this kind.
On March 13th, at about 12:45 A.M., I was returning home from a vacation
with my wife Kim and one - year -old son Ted. We live at 2548 -Stark St. and
have lived at this residence for the past year. Upon turning the corner of
Rice and Demont, our car was just missed by an inch of a yellow Chevy pick -up
just leaving the parking lot of the Hogsbreath Disco, located on the south-
east corner of Rice and Demont. In order to avoid colliding with the truck,
I had to screech to a stop. At the same time , a few young men jumped on
my car screaming and then ran off while I was exiting my car. At this time
I observed approximately 50 people congregating in the parking lot. Kim
estimated about 70 people were in the lot; how many is strickly a guess,
however, it was a large number:
I remind the Council that not only my wife, but my one - year -old son
was also in the car at the time. This road (Demont is used as a residential
access road for the single- family housing located on both Demont and Stark
streets, and for the Canterbury Condominium units.
It is my :understanding that there is to be a patrol unit in the parking
lot; obviously, this is not enough. Not only is this inexcusable for the
owners of the Hcgsbreath to let their patrons carry on in their parking lot,
but someday someone is going to be seriously hurt from either or both
intoxicated drivers or customers' rowdy behavior. I must reemphasize that
the Hogsbreath is located very close to Little Canada housing; we the housing
residents should in no way have to tolerate these kind of incidents.
I'm sure the City Council will take the appropiate action to prevent
any further incidents of this kind, and it is my hope that the liquor license
be taken away from the Hogsbreath . My only regret is that I cannot
personally appear before the Council, but a time conflict exists. Please
feel free to call me with any questions you may have.
is Sincerely, C (ft-49
n n tt Fh
