Our lot is on Schletty Drive, and what will be our
back yard faces the City Center. As I indicated to you, we would like to
hook up to the City water main on the South side of Little Canada Road, which
was originally intended to service our property. It is our understanding
that Dr. and Mrs. Warhol, 537 Schletty Drive, were allowed to hook up to the
water, without being assessed, but with the stipulation they will be assessed
if and when water goes down Schletty Drive. We would like to connect to the
City water main under the same arrangement.
We are extremely desirous of hooking up for several reasons. Among them is
cost. Present estimates to drill a well on our lot range from $1,800.00 -
$3,000.00 and up. For this reason we would even be willing to pay what we
were originally going to be assessed (i.e. $1,149.00). However, this would
eventually result in us being assessed twice for water.
Besides cost, wells may have other problems associated with them that City
water would not. These include the water table dropping, low water pressure,
and unpleasant taste. Also, the chance of contamination by chemicals dumped
miles away, no matter how remote, exists.
The main reason though, that we seek City water is that under the Federal
Housing Administration loan we are presently applying for, our home must be
connected to both City water and sewer. Without being permitted to hook up,
and obtain the FHA loan, the chances of us being able to build at the present
time are very slim.
After talking to some of our future neighbors on Schletty Drive, we understand
that the reason our proposed water assessment was originally deleted was be-
cause the neighbors further down the road on Schletty Drive were afraid that
any future water assessment on their property would be greatly excessive, if
