ATTENTION: Special INFORMATION on Local Government AID
The Minnesota League of Small Cities (MLOSC) is making an effort
to CORRECT the INEQUITIES of the Local Government Aid Formula.
Attached is a computor print out of all Cities in the state, showing
their "per capita aid" in relation to other cities. You will be able
to compare, for yourself, the difference in distribution. Some Cities
are receiving substantially MORE PCA (per capita aid) than others,
even though their AEMR (Average Equalized Mill Rate) is the SAME or
even LOWER.
Your "AEMR" and $ per capita" are circled in RED on the computor sheet.
Compare yours with others in the same AEMR division; HOWEVER, it is
important that you ALSO compare other AEMR levels to see the COMPLETE
picture of how inequitable the present formula distributes aid.
A NEW FORMULA is presently being developed by the MLOSC and by other
Cities that are too large to hold membership in our organization.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
Here are some things YOU CAN DO:
1. Contact your legislator. Inform him of the inequities.
2. Contact the League of Minnesota Cities. Make them aware
of your discontent with the inconsistencies of the present
formula.
If you have any further questions regarding this print out,
contact the MLOSC immediately.
Yours Truly,
Mathias Kapsch, MLOSC President
Tel. 218- 827 -3165
Melvin Kaasa, MLOSC Vice President
Tel. 507- 726 -2093 home
Tel. 507- 726 -2538 office
12
