PARK COMMISSION
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
515 Little Canada Rd.
Little Canada, Mn 55117
August 26, 1982
Minutes of the Regular Meeting:
The regular meeting of the Park Commission of the City of Little Canada
was held on the the 26th day of August, 1982 at 515 Little Canada Road
in said City.
The following members were present: Carl Spooner, Bev Scalze, Lois Runyon,
Elaine Zoch, Bill Sanders, Jim Morelan, Dan Drake, and Nick Kent.
Carl called the meeting to order.
Discussion followed on sending a letter to District 623 School Board
asking permission to blacktop the lower parking lot in the Spring of
1983. Carl signed the letter and it was sent.
Bev reported that the council deceided to sell the lot on Morrision and
Demont as it was only 6' short of lot size.
Discussion followed on the the installation of the two lights in Spooner
Park by the Canadian Days Committee. Although we approve of their
appearance, we would have liked the committee to get final approval
from us before the lights were set in concrete. It was decided to send
Bill Richie a letter of thanks.
The budget for 1983 was discussed.
funds for blacktopping the parking
transferred to account #206 (which
School Board grants permission for
Park Commission decided to request
to pay for the parking lot.
Lois mentioned that the carry over
lot, which wasn't done 1981, was
is the park fee account). If the
us to blacktop the parking lot, the
a one time .transfer of funds ($15,000)
Future park land development was discussed. Bill Sanders and Dan Drake will
talk to Mr. Schletty about his lowland property for possible park use.
Jim Morelan discussed the possibility of the land on Centerville Road
(about 22 acres) for ball fields and a small park. The School District
is no longer giving Little Canada exclusive use of the ball fields at
Capital View, Kellogg and Little Canada Schools, and the children of Little
Canada will need recreational fields. Elaine Zoch mentioned the recreational
activites for our youth is a real necessity and we the Park Commission
should plan ahead for their future.
Bev Scalze suggested that we write a letter sometime in the future to the
School Board requesting purchasing a portion of Spooner Park.
Jim Morelan made a motion that the recording secretary receive $20.00 per
month instead of $10.00 a month. Seconded by Bill Sanders. Passed.
Adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Lois Runyon, Secretary
LR:gb
Attached: 1. Letter to School Board
2. 1983 tenative budget
3. Letter to Bill Richie
