Office of:
JOSEPH G. CHLEBECK, Clerk
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minn. 55117
484 -2177
April 28, 1982
MEMORANDUM
CITY OF LITTLE CANADA
RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA
TO: Mayor Hanson
Council Members: Bev Scalze
Dennis Forsberg
Mugs Nardini
Michael Fahey
CONCERN: Brush removal policy for City.
MAYOR
Raymond Hanson
I have spoken to our Tree Removal Contractors regarding their price for
brush removal in the City. In their quote for this year they said they
would charge $6.00 a cubic yard for brush pick -up. However, they said
they would be willing to lower that charge to $4.00 a cubic yard if all
the brush could be picked up and hauled from a central location.
COUNCI L
Michael Fahey
Beverly Scalze
Dennis Forsberg
Mugs Nardini
In the past years free dump day has been abused and the cost to the City
has been expensive. Last year the City Tree Removal Contractors hauled
seven loads of brush at $200 per truck load for a total cost of $1,400
for brush removal only.
If the people who wish to dump brush are charged $2.00 a cubic yard, I
feel the abuse will be minimal and the expense to the City will be re-
duced. (The City could pay the extra $2.00 a cubic yard).
To eliminate the hauling expense the City may wish to consider burning
the brush without a burning permit from the PCA. The PCA is very strict,
even on a City level, about burning brush, and a permit to do so is next
to impossible to get. I don't know the full implications of challenging
the PCA, but paying the fine may be cheaper then hauling the brush.
The secretaries at the City Center said they have received many calls
regarding brush removal in the past couple of weeks. Rather then ad-
vertise a program throughout the City, perhaps they could only tell the
residents of the City who contact the City Hall of a certain time and
place to dump their brush. This would cut down on the volume of brush and
thus the expense to the City. I have asked them to keep a list of all the
people who call in so they could be contacted once a program is set up.
Thank you very much.
Thomas Horwath
Tree /Weed Inspector
City of Little Canada
TH:bj
--0,f19)
