goon netghuon. Carr Ceram. Int
Shepard Park Office Center, Suite 200 2177 l /ouuparan Avenue, St. ANN ALA' 551 /6 (61 2) 696 -6544
September 7, 1983
Mr. Joseph Chlebeck, City Clerk
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Dear Mr. Chlebeck:
WNW()
SFP 9 1983
CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with additional information
regarding Good Neighbor Care Centers' application for a building permit
for our project on Edgerton Avenue. I am aware that you are not a
voting member of the city council. However, as a city employee who is
involved in this process, I feel it important that you are also as
knowledgeable about this as possible.
At the last City Council meeting I presented material showing that
property values are not affected by the inclusion of residential group
homes into a community. I quoted information from a major research
study showing that, and have since found additional research information
to support that. I left one copy of one research study with Mayor
Hanson. If you need additional copies of that or any other studies on
this subject, I would be happy to provide that for you.
We have further information regarding our licensing and survey
process. We will be contracting with the nursing department of the
Ramsey County Public Health Department to perform periodic surveys and
inspections of our operation. This will include, above and beyond the
inspections for Fire and Safety, survey of resident care and
supervision, social and recreational programs, medical and physical
evaluation and any other functions pertinent to quality resident care.
Ramsey County Public Health presently performs similar survey functions
for other care providers.
We do not feel that future uses for this property need be a major
concern. Our company is a well established company which fully intends
to continue on a long -term basis providing care for the elderly in this
way. There is a rapidly growing number of elderly people who will
require more and more care in the future. Based on our knowledge of
what these people are paying to receive care in a nursing home, and what
their priorities are for care in their aging years, we feel very certain
that this will be a popular option for them.
2
