Glen Van Wormer, an engineer previously with the Minnesota
Department of Transportation, was present and able to answer most questions.
It was determined that it would be highly unlikely that a permanent traffic signal
could be installed prior to late summer of 1984.
Norman Brody had been in touch with the Minnesota Department of Transportation and
advised the meeting that a temporary signal might be installed by mid - summer 1983
at a cost estimated to be somewhere between $30,000 and $35,000, none of which
would be refundable at the time of installation of the permanent signal.
Tom Curley indicated that it would be quite difficult to sell Roseville on paying
one -half of this cost since the benefits to Roseville would be minor and the per-
manent signal would be forthcoming within a year. By contrast, Ray Hanson indi-
cated that the City of Little Canada would probably be interested in participat-
ing in the cost since the need for the signal is well known to the City Council
and most of the benefits inure to residents of Little Canada. He agreed to explore
the feelings of the City Council members at a forthcoming meeting on Wednesday, Jan-
uary 26th.
The fee owners of the Cub property and Little Canada Mall were present and indi-
cated a willingness to participate in the cost of the temporary project. Norman
Brody agreed to contact McDonald's and attempt to secure similar participation
from that company.
Following the meeting, Norman contacted District Engineer Kermit McCrae who indi-
cated that in order to get the ball rolling it would be necessary to secure a let-
ter from Little Canada and/or Roseville requesting a temporary facility and request-
ing a meeting to get the process underway. A letter has gone forward to Raymond
Hanson requesting such a letter from the City of Little Canada with a copy of same
to Tom Curley, representing the City of Roseville. Irving Margolis will be meeting
with the officials of Roseville to learn their feelings on the project and their
interest in participating in a temporary facility.
