CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA
City Hall
515 Little Canada Rd.
Little Canada, MN 55117
Attn: Joseph Clebeck, City Clerk
Dear Mr. Clebeck:
2550 Rice Street
St. Paul, MN 55117
January 11, 1983
I am writing in response to the minutes of the December 8,
1982 council meeting published in the January 5, 1983
North Suburban Press regarding my concern of a large tree
on my property.
If you would refer to my October 29, 1982 letter to the
Minnesota Department of Transportation (of which you were
sent a copy), concern number five is quoted below:
"The removal of large feeder roots from a
massive tree (102" circumference) adjacent
to my home could cause the tree to fall
onto my house during a windeterm."
In response to my letter of October•29, 1982, I recieved
a letter dated November 29, 1982 from Kermit K. McRae,
District Engineer, Minnesota Department of Transportation,
with the answer to concern number five quoted below:
"This matter has been referred to Milner W. Carley
and Associates, as the engineering consultant for
the City of Little Canada. If the roots of the
tree were damaged it would have been the result
of the watermain installation, not our shallow
storm culvert. Carley and Associates will
contact -you at a future date.
To correct the minutes of the December 8, 1982 meeting,
my concern is not that the tree will die or encroachment
on my property. My concern is that the roots have been
removed, as seen by then acting engineer for Little Canada,
Ewald Hiese, Carley and Associates, and the Unbalanced
nature of the tree may cause destruction to my house
during a storm.
Milner W. Carley has never approached and /or discussed
this matter with me directly. Nor has any member of the
Little Canada council.
