Publish: North Suburban Press - February 8 and 15, 1983 SENIOR CITIZENS DEFERMENTS CITY OF LITTLE CANADA RESOLUTION NO. 82 -2-63 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING DEFERRALS OF SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS FOR CERTAIN DISABLED PERSONS WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes, Sections 435.193 through 435.195, as amended, authorize the Little Canada City Council to defer special assessment payments for certain disabled persons at the discretion of the Council, and , WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Little Canada determines that deferral of special assessments for certain disabled persons is in the public interest, and WHEREAS, it is necessary that the City Council establish its general policies and guidelines for granting said deferrals of special assessments for disabled persons. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council endorses the principle of deferment of special assessments for certain disabled persons, when the payment of said special assessments constitutes a hardship. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council's consideration of the application for granting deferments of special assessments shall be based on the following factors: 1. The property must be homestead property. 2. The owner must be retired by virtue of a permanent and total disability, and in the case of husband and wife, one person must meet this requirement. The applicant shall be presently receiving Retirement Survivors Insurance or Disability Insurance under the Social Security Act, 42 U.S.C., Section 301, as amended, or any other retirement insurance or disability insurance.
