NdNNESpTgyp
Minnesota
/77 a Department of Transportation
 District 9
3485 Hadley Avenue North, Box 2050
OF TROD North St. Paul, Minnesota 55109
(612) 770 -2311
February 11, 1983
Mr. Joseph G. Chlebeck, Clerk
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Dear Mr. Chlebeck:
Thank you for the opportunity on February 7,.1983 to meet and discuss with
you your Gity's.traffic.concerns in conjunction With Mn /DOT's . roadway systems
in and near your locale.
This letter is in response to your inquiry regarding (1).a time table for
the completion of the interchange modifications at the junction of I -694 and
TH 61; and (2) plans for the possibility of installing a signal system at the
intersection of County Road C and TH 61.
At the meeting .I mentioned that the main reason for the interchange modifica-
tions project at 1 -694 and TH 61 not being programmed before was the lack of
funds.. Because of recent developments (see below) funding now appears to have
been arranged.
On July 23, 1982 the FHWA agreed that additional movements at this interchange
can be provided. Because of that decision, .this project is eligible for
regular FAI funding and is considered as stage construction. The guidelines
set forth by the FHWA are that all interstate gap construction projects be ...
under contract prior to any interstate stage construction. Therefore, we have
tentatively scheduled this project.for a June of 1986 letting. The antici-
pated modifications to the interchange should take approximately one construc-
tion season.
You also expressed concern over the traffic situation at the intersection of
County Road C. and TH 61 and what plans, if any, Mn /DOT has for installing
signals there. In checking with our traffic engineering department, based
on volumes, signals are warranted at this intersection. Therefore, we have
tentatively scheduled to let'a signal system contract in March of 1984.
If you have any further questions, please contact me at 779 -1206.
Sincerely,
Gary Zak
Project Manager
An Equal Opportunity Employer
FEB 16 1983
CITY OF
LITTLE CANADA
