August 24, 1988
Mayor Fahey and City Council Members
Little Canada City Council
Little Canada City Hall
515 E. Little Canada Road
Little Canada, Minnesota 55117
Your Honor and Council Members:
This letter is in reference to the Little Canada, Centerville Road
improvements. Specifically, the manner in which this entire
project has been handled.
Road construction of this degree is never convenient or timely
under the best of circumstances. What disturbs me, however, is
the lack of support the City of Little Canada has given the
local businesses and area residents. From the beginning when
the Centerville Road project went from a 2 week project to
an 8 week project (and currently still incomplete), traffic
has been routed and rerouted without benefits of; detour signs,
street identification signs (no sign on corner of Centerville
Road and Little Canada Road), speed reduction signs for those
residents along Noel Drive and Labore Road who had to absorb the
increase in traffic, and very little advance public notification
of impending road closings.
After repeated calls to the Minnesota Department of Transportation,
their recommendations included installing our own detour signs,
which were promptly removed. It would seem the City of Little
Canada would automatically see to it those items be apart of
all development agreements between the City and contractors
awarded bids.
Additionally disturbing is the lack of public information
regarding road closings. At our expense, and those of other
local businesses, a detailed map was published in the local
suburban paper. I do not necessarily feel it is the area
businesses responsibility to notify the public of pending
road closures, and construction. Those people aren't just
our "customers ", they are also residents.
