LASSOCIATES, IN <br />Consulting Engineers —land Surveyors <br />City Council <br />City Of Little Canada <br />515 East Little Canada Road <br />Little Canada, MN 55115 <br />500 West Highway 96 <br />St. Paul, Minnesota 55112 - <br />484-3301 <br />May 4, 1988 <br />RE: Wheel Chair Lift <br />�Cr -rn <br />ll,LIv1_'! <br />:'- 1588 <br />City of <br />tie Canada <br />Dear Council Members: <br />On May 3, 1988 the City received bids for the wheelchair lift <br />to be installed in LeClaire Hall, 433 East Little Canada Road. <br />One bid was received from MINNESOTA HOME ELEVATOR,INC. in the <br />amount of $17,475.00. <br />Ordinarily, we would not recommend awarding a contract on the <br />basis of one bid, since there is nothing to compare it to. <br />However, we are making an exception to this policy for the <br />following reasons. <br />1. The potential bidders on this type of equipment are <br />almost always sub- contractors and are therefore not <br />accustomed to making formal bids. <br />2. Knowing this, we sent notices to thirteen different <br />elevator firms in the Twin Cities (All were listed in <br />the Yellow Pages). We received one reply. <br />3. We are told that the type of elevator being offered is <br />the only one made in this part of the country. <br />We therefore recommend awarding the contract to MINNESOTA <br />HOME ELEVATOR, INC., which includes the cost of remodeling <br />the building by ADVENT CONSTRUCTION, INC. of Little Canada. <br />In addition, we have also received a separate proposal from <br />ADVENT CONSTRUCTION, INC. to complete the outside work <br />necessary. This was not part of the base bid. It consists of <br />a ramp and rail. <br />We would recommend that this proposal be accepted in the <br />amount of $2,585.00. <br />Yours truly, <br />MILER W.
