County Commissioner McDonough
indicated that the group this evening is meeting with all Ramsey
County cities to have an informational conversation about transit and
the importance of getting organized on a County -wide basis in order to get
transit improvements in Ramsey County and the east metro. McDonough
reported that the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce are also supportive of
this issue and had supported the Governor's proposal for a %2 cent sales tax
for transit improvements.
McDonough provided funding information relative to the %4 cent sales tax
that was authorized in 2008 for transit in the seven county area (five
counties put the sales tax in place). He noted that the Central Corridor is
the only line in the east metro and again stressed the need for transit
infrastructure improvements in this area.
