MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 12, 2013
Emerson also pointed out the importance of working across boundaries as
well as county lines.
McDonough indicated that the hope is to get one light rail line in Ramsey
County and then BRTs as well as arterial BRTs. McDonough again
pointed out the economic development aspect and indicated that that
investment will not be made unless there are adequate transit
improvements that will not go away. He also noted that express buses
moving people on the freeway will not result in economic development.
The transit improvements need to happen along other roadways.
McDonough talked about transit improvement success stories in other
cities. The issue of transit to get people to and from their jobs, both in St.
Paul and the suburbs, was also discussed. Emerson noted the Met
Council's affordable housing requirements which also increased the need
for transit to get people to and from their jobs.
The group thanked the Council for meeting with them. They asked the
Council for their support on these transit issues as they move forward as
well as asked the Council to stay involved.
ADJOURN There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
Attest:
William Best ner, Mayor
son, City Administrator
3
