20 October 1983 Page Two
IV. Temporary Signs. These will include any temporary or portable signs
(advertising or holiday). Any principal building will be allowed 120
sign -days per calendar year or 12 month period (consult the building
inspector to see which he would like). If a business chooses to display
more than one temporary sign at any one tine, each sign will be counted
against his 120 days. For instance, three temporary signs up at one time
for 10 days will be counted as 30 sign -days. A maximum number of temporary
signs may be a good idea. Included as temporary signs are all portable
signs, search (Klieg) lights, banners and pennants with any commercial
message, or other signs of a non - permanent nature, or window signs in
excess of that allowed in 903.110.C.10.
Any principal building owner or owners may apply one time per year for a
temporary sign permit of $25.00. A letter via registered mail must
then be sent to the City indicating the exact date or dates of temporary
sign display. Upon request, the City may inspect its files for valid
permits and dates of display.
Violations will result in suspension or revocation of temporary sign
permit for up to twelve months from date of violation as determined
by the City.
There was also some discussion as to regulation of the construction
and materials of temporary signs.
The maximum size of any single temporary sign shall be 32 square feet.
It was suggested that new businesses be granted a conditional use permit
for one temporary sign per frontage of from six months to one year.
Search (Klieg) lights must be protected so as to be made unaccessible.
We are to check how this can be done.
