5. If you are a public employer of any size you must comply with the
hazardous substance and harmful physical agent requirements; and if
you are a public hospital or clinic you must also comply with the
infectious agent requirements.
As a courtesy to you, the employer, we are attempting to make a direct
mailing to all places of employment that are covered. The enclosed poster
must be posted and the brochures are intended to summarize the obligations
of the employer and furnish information you will need for compliance.
Sources of additional information are included in the brochures.
I personally believe the inclusion of information about these hazardous
substances, harmful physical agents, and infectious agents in the workplace
will significantly reduce injury rates. Certainly the benefits to employers
in terms of reducing operating costs and to employees in terms of less
suffering will be well worth the efforts needed to comply with this Act.
Your anticipated cooperation is appreciated.
Very truly yours,
DEPARTMENT OF LABOR AND INDUSTRY
Ivan W. Russell, Director
Occupational Safety & Health
IWR:cmg
Enclosures
