northwest associated consultants, inc.
MEMORANDUM
TO: Little Canada Planning Commission
FROM: Stephen Grittman
DATE: 28 November 1988
RE: Little Canada - Sign Ordinance Amendment
FILE NO: 758.09 - 88.72
This memorandum forwards a proposed text amendment discussed by
the City Council at its meeting on 23 November. The current
Ordinance, Section 903.110.D.3. sets "sunset" periods for
prohibited and non - conforming signs. This means that upon the
adoption of the Sign Ordinance, prohibited signs had one year to
be brought into conformance, and non - conforming signs had five
years to conform. However, the City has never taken any active
enforcement measures in this regard.
Instead, the Council has chosen to require non - conforming signs
to be brought within the code when businesses close or when
substantial site improvements are made to the site. As a result,
the attached ordinance would delete the "sunset" clause sections
from the Ordinance.
cc: Joe Chlebeck
Tom Sweeney
John Palacio
PAGE -50-
4601 excelsior blvd., ste. 410, minneapolis, mn 55416 (612) 925 -9420
