DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
January 20, 1989
Vance K. Opperman, Chairman
Metro Council Nominations Committee
100 Washington Ave. So.,
Minneapolis, Mn., 55401
Dear Mr. Opperman,
During the past several years as Director of Parks and Recreation
for the City of Roseville, I have had the opportunity to work
with Ms. Arlene Vickers in various capacities. Ms. Vickers has
been an active member of our community. We have served together
as members of the Board of Directors of the Roseville /Falcon
Heights Chamber of Commerce. She has also served, diligently, as
a member of the Citizens Ad Hoc Committee for the development of
an international Speedskating facility in Roseville and as a
member of the Mayor's Task Force on evaluating our Figure Skating
program.
I've observed, closely, her work as chair of the Legislative
Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. She has skillfully
brought together members of the north suburban area on
legislative matters and has organized several major programs
involving legislatures. She has demonstrated a keen interest in
a variety of matters throughout the St. Paul and north suburban
area. She has been objective in considering all issues but is
not afraid to step forward and express her opinion. In my
professional capacity, I have had the opportunity to work with
hundreds of people. I consider Arlene Vickers to be one of the
best and highly recommend her for a position on the Metropolitan
Council. She would serve our area extremely well.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely,
BOB BIERSCHEID,
Director of Parks and Recreation
City of Roseville
BB /bf
PAGE -13
